Nicolas Iten breaks the Pumpfoil Long Distance Record again!

On May 25th our Ambassador Nicolas Iten once again broke the world record set by Jérôme Baudoux for long distance dockstart pumping by pumping for over 4 hours on the Condor XL. It's absolutely amazing what is possible on the new Indiana Condor XL Foil.

Here's the story from Nicolas' perspective:

Yesterday I broke the 4 hour mark and pumped 54.8 km, setting a new world record in long distance dockstart pumping. This record was not planned and just happened.

Condor X

14 hours ago I took part in an inline speed skating race and planned a workout with my Condor XL to refresh my legs and test a prototype stabilizer.

I woke up at 6am and had a Snickers bar for breakfast (at that point I didn't know I would be out that long and should have consumed a lot more calories) and started an hour later in sunny and light wind conditions on Lake Sempach. After 2km I hit a wooden branch and had to swim for 10 minutes (luckily I was wearing a short wetsuit in 15 degree water temperature) to restart on another platform. After 3 failed attempts at the dock start (probably a bit nervous because there were so many birds watching me ????), I reset my watch and circled Lake Sempach for 16 kilometers. I was feeling good so I decided to do one more lap. I had plenty of water in a hydration pack (2.5 liters) with some carbohydrates in it and two bananas.

After 30 kilometers and still good legs, I went for the third lap. The wind was pretty good, the air temperature was around 19 degrees, and lots of sun, so I was getting warmer and warmer with my short wetsuit. Consequently, my pulse increased little by little. After the third lap and 48 km, I was sure that I would have to do a few small laps to avoid the risk of having to swim or run for a long time if I fell into the water. After 4 hours I returned to the start point because my batteries were critically empty. My "training" ended up lasting 4:02 hours with 54.8 km of continuous "flying".

Mastering Stand-Up Paddle Techniques

With better preparation it would certainly have been possible to pump even longer distances, but sometimes it's better when nothing is perfectly planned. Luckily I recorded the ride with my Garmin watch.

The Condor XL was developed by the Indiana Foil Design Team together with Jérôme Baudoux to enable exactly this kind of record. We are very proud of this achievement and congratulate Nicolas on
